Privacy Policy — bball.io
Effective date: July 12, 2026
bball.io is a multiplayer basketball game available on the web at bball.io and as a mobile app. This policy describes what information the game collects and how it is used. We collect as little as possible: no email address and no real name. The game may show optional rewarded ads and use analytics, as described below.
Information we collect
- Username and password (optional). You can play as a guest without an account. If you create an account, you choose a username and password. The username is displayed publicly in matches and on leaderboards; the password is sent directly to and stored by our backend provider, and is never visible to us. We do not ask for your email address or real name.
- Gameplay data. Match results, scores, shooting statistics (including where on the court shots were taken), skill rating, in-game currency, and cosmetic items are stored against your player account (or a random anonymous ID for guests) so your progress persists between sessions.
- Display name. If you set a custom display name, it is saved to your player account so it follows you across devices, and it is shown publicly to other players in matches. Do not use your real name as your username.
- Device settings. Preferences such as audio volume and control options are stored locally on your device (browser localStorage) and are not transmitted to us.
- Technical data. Like any online service, our hosting and backend providers process your IP address and basic connection metadata to deliver the game and protect against abuse. We do not use this to identify or profile you.
How we use this information
Solely to operate the game: running online matches, saving your progress and purchases of in-game items, showing leaderboards, and preventing cheating or abuse (for example, filtering offensive usernames), and to understand aggregate usage so we can improve the game. We do not sell your information.
Service providers
The game runs on infrastructure operated by third-party providers acting on our behalf: Cloudflare (website hosting and delivery) and a game-server backend hosted on Railway (multiplayer matches, accounts, and saved progress). These providers process connection data (such as IP addresses) as necessary to provide the service.
If you play through a game portal (such as Y8) and sign in with your portal account, the portal shares a sign-in token and your portal nickname with our backend so your progress can follow that account across devices. The portal's own privacy policy governs the data it collects.
Analytics
We collect gameplay usage events — such as session length, matches played, and feature usage — to understand how the game is played and improve it. These events are tied to your player account (or anonymous guest ID) so we can measure things like per-player retention and progression. We use this data only to run and improve the game — we do not sell it and do not use it for advertising purposes.
Children
The game is suitable for general audiences and does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Accounts require only a made-up username — please do not use your real name. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Data retention and deletion
Account and gameplay data are kept while your account exists. You can request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your data. Contact us and we will honor these requests.
Changes to this policy
If we add features that materially change what we collect, we will update this policy and change the effective date above before those features go live.
